About the school
A School Built on Virtue, Curiosity and High Expectations
Millbrook International School is an international learning community in Embu, Kenya, where Cambridge International education meets Kenya's Competency Based Curriculum.
Our story
An International Education, Rooted in Embu
Millbrook was founded to give families in Embu access to an internationally recognised education without asking their children to travel far from home.
From the beginning our approach has been simple: know each child, teach with rigour, and take character as seriously as academics. Our name and our crest carry that promise — nurture virtue, imagine greatness.
Today the school serves families across Embu and the surrounding areas, from Njukiri and Kiomugo to Embu town and beyond.

Our Vision
To be a leading international learning community where every learner grows in virtue, competence and confidence, and is prepared to contribute meaningfully to the world.
Our Mission
To nurture knowledgeable, principled and creative learners through an internationally minded education that combines Cambridge learning with Kenya's Competency Based Curriculum, in partnership with families.
Our values
What We Ask of Ourselves and Our Learners
These six values shape our classrooms, our corridors and our conversations with families.
Virtue
Honesty, respect and responsibility shape everyday life at Millbrook, not just assemblies.
Excellence
We hold high expectations and give every learner the support required to reach them.
Curiosity
Questions are welcomed. Enquiry sits at the centre of how our learners think and work.
Compassion
We care for one another, and we teach children to notice and serve the people around them.
Courage
Confidence grows when children are given real opportunities to lead, present and try again.
Community
Families, teachers and learners work as one partnership around each child.
Our educational philosophy
Teach the Child, Not Only the Curriculum
We plan learning around understanding rather than coverage. Learners are asked to explain their thinking, apply what they know and reflect on how they learn.
- High expectations paired with genuine support for every learner.
- Enquiry and discussion as the normal shape of a lesson.
- Assessment used to guide teaching, not merely to grade children.
- Character formed through responsibility, service and reflection.
- Parents treated as partners in their child's education.
