Academics

Learning With Purpose. Growing With Confidence.

Our academic programme brings together the rigour of Cambridge International education and the practical, competency-based focus of Kenya's CBC framework.

Cambridge International Curriculum

Cambridge gives our learners a clear, internationally recognised progression through each subject, with strong emphasis on understanding, reasoning and independent study.

  • Internationally recognised learning framework
  • Depth of subject knowledge and academic rigour
  • Enquiry, reasoning and independent thinking
  • Clear progression and structured assessment
  • A globally minded outlook

CBC Integration

Kenya's Competency Based Curriculum keeps learning practical, values-driven and locally relevant, so that what children learn connects to the world around them.

  • Competency and skills based learning
  • Practical, applied and project work
  • Values, citizenship and community
  • Learner-centred, activity-rich lessons
  • Strong local and cultural relevance

Our learning philosophy

How a Millbrook Lesson Works

Teachers begin from what learners already understand, make the purpose of the lesson explicit, and give children the chance to apply and explain their thinking.

Because our classes are known personally to their teachers, support and challenge can be adjusted quickly. Progress is discussed with families rather than saved for a report at the end of term.

Core competencies

Six Capabilities We Build in Every Subject

Critical Thinking

Learners are asked why, not only what. They weigh evidence, compare ideas and justify conclusions.

Creativity & Innovation

Open-ended tasks invite original solutions across subjects, not only in the arts.

Communication

Reading, writing, listening and speaking are practised deliberately in every subject.

Collaboration

Group work is structured so that each learner contributes and is accountable.

Problem Solving

Real problems, applied knowledge and the persistence to work through difficulty.

Character Development

Honesty, respect and responsibility are taught, practised and expected.

Progress

Assessment & Progress

Assessment at Millbrook exists to improve learning. Teachers check understanding continuously and use what they find to adjust their teaching.

Children learn at different rates. Where a learner needs extra help — or extra challenge — we plan for it with the family.
